Do you suffer from corns and calluses?

Corns & Callus | Healthy Life Foot Clinic

They can be painful & also unsightly.

Corns & callus are simply areas where the skin becomes thickened due to too much pressure. That pressure may be related to wearing the wrong type of footwear (too tight for example), forming over bony bumps (over the tops of hammertoes or bunions) or standing & walking in such a way as to place too much pressure on an area.

The corn or callus can be painlessly removed but you need to determine the underlying cause to properly treat a callus or corn.

Simple tips you may find helpful:
1. soak your feet in warm water & gentle file areas of hard skin but don’t go to far
2. use a good quality moisturiser on your skin – something that contains Urea is ideal
3. wear footwear that fits well

While corns & callus can be a minor issue, they can be a sign of bigger issues & should be assessed & then treated – & treatment is painless. When you see one of our Podiatrist’s they will not only treat the corns or callus but also review your footwear & how you walk as this will often indicate why the problem is occurring in the first place.

Professional Podiatry Services in Adelaide

What to expect at your consultation

When you see one of our Podiatrist’s at Healthy Life Foot Clinic, you’ll not only feel welcomed but confident in their care.

We’ll initially take the time to learn about you and your problem and how it’s affected you and what it’s stopping you from doing. We will then take a thorough history and perform a detailed examination to determine what’s wrong and the cause of your problem.

Part of the examination will involve observation of your walking which may also include the use of video or Gaitscan (this measures the pressure applied under your feet). We may also refer you for further xrays or ultrasound if indicated.

Finally, we will give you a plan which will clearly detail what the problem is, why it’s there and what we will do to get you back to doing what you love as quickly as possible. Treatment will vary according to your problem but may include a combination of hands on therapy (foot mobilisation and dry needling), strapping, exercise, footwear advice, laser, orthotic therapy and general foot care.
