Are you suffering from knee, hip or lower back pain?

Knee, Hip & Lower Back Pain | Healthy Life Foot Clinic

There are many different causes of knee, hip & lower back pain. One of the most overlooked causes of this pain is your feet. To understand this, think of a building built on weak or improperly engineered foundations. A poor foundation can cause the building to crack & potentially wear out much quicker. Feet form the foundation of our body & so if your feet do not function properly, you can develop pain in your knees, hips & lower back.

What do you mean by poorly functioning feet? Poor foot function could be due to foot pain causing you to alter your gait & this leading to increased strain on your hips or knees. Or flat feet or high arches can cause you again to walk differently causing you to compensate for these problems leading to lower back pain.

So how does a Podiatrist help treat knee, hip or lower back pain? We always work closely with your other health care team members (GP, Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Massage Therapist) to properly address the cause of the pain. Once we have a diagnosis, a plan can be put in place to treat the problem – this may include exercises to strengthen your foot & ankle to better support the body, use of flexible orthotics & simple changes to your gait to reduce strain on other joints.

The most important point is call & make an appointment to discuss your problem or book online by clicking on the “Make an Appointment” button.

What to expect at your consultation

When you see one of our Podiatrist’s at Healthy Life Foot Clinic, you’ll not only feel welcomed but confident in their care.

We’ll initially take the time to learn about you and your problem and how it’s affected you and what it’s stopping you from doing. We will then take a thorough history and perform a detailed examination to determine what’s wrong and the cause of your problem.

Part of the examination will involve observation of your walking which may also include the use of video or Gaitscan (this measures the pressure applied under your feet). We may also refer you for further xrays or ultrasound if indicated.

Finally, we will give you a plan which will clearly detail what the problem is, why it’s there and what we will do to get you back to doing what you love as quickly as possible. Treatment will vary according to your problem but may include a combination of hands on therapy (foot mobilisation and dry needling), strapping, exercise, footwear advice, laser, orthotic therapy and general foot care.
